The Centre for Scholastic Excellence (CSE) was pioneered in 2008 to provide an alternative platform within the Hwa Chong Integrated Programme (IP) for the high achievers in the lower secondary to attempt an expanded upper secondary curriculum with a more independent and student-centred approach. The essential goals of CSE are to stimulate independent learning and to provide an environment for these youths to engage in collaborative learning as well as knowledge building, fostering interdependence amongst their peers.

Students read their special programme subjects in the same clusters and get to interact with one another across programmes as they band together to take their common subjects and stay together in the Integrated Boarding Programme, where they get to hone their character and leadership skills. Also, they get to immerse themselves in the Chinese culture over their 6-weeks stay in the Beijing Satellite Campus.
